In this personal project, I investigated the role of trifluoroethanol (TFE) as an electrolyte additive to suppress dendrite formation and hydrogen evolution in aqueous zinc batteries. By systematically varying TFE concentration, I quantified its impact on coulombic efficiency and overpotential through cycling data and electrochemical characterization. Analyzing these trends allowed me to identify the additive concentrations that most effectively stabilize the zinc metal anode and enhance long-term cycling behavior. This work contributes to the development of safer, more sustainable aqueous battery systems and reflects my broader interest in applying fundamental electrochemical principles to next-generation energy storage technologies.
